fig + feta feast.

i am a fan of sweet and salty flavors judiciously combined.

so, the other morning, i made fig + feta toasts.

they were so good that my husband, a fig purist, kept snatching the fruits from my bowl.

next time, i will be sure to factor in fig theft when i decide how much to make.

a good question.

"what would your good do if evil didn't exist, and what would the earth look like if all the shadows disappeared?"

swift supper: butternut squash ravioli.

swift supper: ravioli + greens.

1. boil a pot of slightly salted water.

2. upend package of quality store-bought ravioli. i use whole foods' butternut squash, because i enjoy the slight sweetness, but you can use whatever you like!

3. when ready, use slotted spoon to place ravioli to a plate.

4. drizzle ravioli with a dan of olive oil. grind fresh salt and a smidge of black pepper atop the pasta.

5. build a mountain of arugula, snow capped by sheets of parmesan, on top of the ravioli.

6. dress the arugula mountain with a good, thick balsamic vinegar. be prepared - a little goes a long way here.

devour.

on ignoring the baby blues.

disclaimer: no, we are NOT expecting.

but i found this article on slate to be too interesting/depressing [see what i did there?] to pass up.

no one really talks about prenatal NOR postpartum depression. at least, no one i know. it's like the dirty secret of pregnancy.

on living waters.

the mitzvah of taharat hamishpacha is, in a word, complicated.

i am admittedly far from an expert when it comes to the counting, the checking, the chatzitzot...for all of these things, i consult nishmat, an inestimable resource for women exploring the beauty [and halacha] of the mikveh.

in fact, sometimes i find it hard to drag myself to the mikveh.

shocking, no?

on embracing the inner bag lady.

i have previously and frequently mentioned here, on the gelt, that i am a fan of minimalism. if i had my unmitigated way at home, i could and would trash another third of what we have.

alas, i love my husband, and we do sort of edge into democratic territory when it comes to item retention.

so.

what does this have to do with bags?
